Opportunities Are Here!

I have to start this bulletin with a very sincere thanks for your service to our Nation, for your participation in our awesome Rotary Club and for allowing Patriots to join you in your efforts to recognize veterans and work side by side to assist our community. Today, Veterans Day, is your day and we honor you today. We've begun the last quarter of 2024 and are headed into the busy holiday season. How did that happen so quickly? It's time to take advantage of the moment and make plans to support the upcoming Club events and Club meetings.

Your first opportunity to show up for your Club is tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov 12, and we have a very special meeting planned! We'll meet at the Michael E DeBakey VA Medical Center, 2002 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030 - 11:30am to 1pm. Our guest speaker will be Medical Director Francisco Vasquez and we'll gather outside at our Flags display for a photo op. Enter the main lobby and take the red elevator to the fourth floor and look for directions there. Please make the extra effort to join us for this special meeting and  invite someone to join you.

Our biggest service projects of the year are in the coming weeks. The Club needs all hands on deck to make these successful! See more detail in this bulletin.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: there is no reason our Club shouldn't grow to become the biggest and most influential in our District. As a patriot, I'm a fierce supporter of veterans and there are many "out there" who love an opportunity to serve veterans. And, of course, as many of you are veterans, you know better than I do that veterans are the kind of people who truly understand Rotary mantra of Service Over Self. There is no reason why we shouldn't be regularly bringing like-minded, high-quality individuals to our meetings and service projects who help us with our mission to grow our Club and thus our ability to serve the veteran community and our community at-large here in Houston. Tell your Rotary story, share the Magic of Rotary (our 24/25 international theme) and invite others to join us every 2nd and 4th Tuesday, as well as to our upcoming special events.

See you soon.

MARK YOU CALENDAR!!!

The Rotary Club of Greater Houston Veterans service projects for 2023-2024 have been announced.  A requirement of all members of the club is that all members participate in it's projects.
The Rotary Club of Greater Houston Veterans strives to honor and support the veteran community in the Houston area.  The club's service projects aim to fulfil this goal.

Hope Garden, located inside the VA Hospital, is an atrium where patients and their guests can visit in a relaxing environment.  Plants and tables and chairs were recently replaced giving the atrium a needed update.  The Club will continue to periodically have projects that will maintain and improve the atrium for the continued use and enjoyment of veterans.

Flags for Fallen Veterans Houston, is an initiative to place American Flags on every Veterans grave site at the Houston National Cemetery for Memorial Day. We want to NEVER allow Americans to forget those who have served and sacrificed throughout our Countries History for the Freedoms we enjoy today.
Flags are place the Sunday before Memorial Day and remove the Saturday after Memorial Day.
For 2023, this is May 28 and June 3.
November.

Operation Turkey helps feed the less fortunate throughout Houston and the surrounding cities. In 2022, more than 9,000 individual meals were delivered in the Houston area.  This is a 2 day event. Wednesday, is "Tailgating" when meals are prepped.  Thursday is "Delivery Day" when meals are assembled and delivered.
This year the event will be November 22 and 23.

Wreaths Across America, is a time to Remember, Honor and Teach as wreaths are placed upon the gravesites at the Houston National Cemetery.  This year the event will be December 16.
